Country Pines Nursery was established in 1980 (incorporated in '82) by Richard Odom. Richard was a farmer growing cotton, corn and soybeans. While successful as a farmer, he started looking for a more profitable business. Richard says he thinks God picked him up and planted him in the nursery business as a wholesale grower.
Learning from the best in the business, Richard took his farming knowledge of soils, water, fertilizer, and plant growth and combined it with the practical knowlege from his wonderful mentors. This information helped him formulate the goals and direction of this new venture, Country Pines Nursery.
Richard's work ethic, honesty, and sense of fair play were instilled long before Country Pines Nursery. These came from his parents and growing up on a small farm. These form the foundation of Country Pines Nursery, and they will always be embraced.
Richard credits the success of the company to the blessings of God and the sacrifices of his wife and children. The above factors contributed to a commitment of serving customers. Country Pines Nursery is people-oriented with a commitment to a quality product and unbeatable customer service.
Not only has Richard worked toward the betterment of his own private business, but he has also worked at improving the industry at large. He believes that all nurserymen should be involved in protecting and perpetuating our industry.
Richard has been a member of many agriculture and horticulture committees at the state and national level. He was elected Outstanding Nurseryman in 1988 and served as president of the LA Nursery and Landscape Association for two years. He received the Professional Achievement Award for developing the Crimson Azalea Series. In 2012, Richard was presented the James A. Foret Award for lifetime service, dedication, and outstanding contributions to Louisiana's green industry.
